How to Choose a Tumbler for the Beach
A good tumbler keeps a drink cold for hours in the sun. A bad one leaks in your bag. Here is what to check before you buy.
What matters
- Insulation type. Look for double-wall vacuum insulation. Single-wall plastic sweats and warms fast.
- The lid. Many tumblers are not leak-proof with a standard slider lid. If it will travel in a beach bag, look for a lid that fully closes or a straw cap.
- Size and cup holder fit. 20 to 30 oz sizes are popular. Check the base width if you use a car or beach-chair cup holder.
- Handle. A handle makes carrying easier on sand.
- Cleaning. Wide mouths and dishwasher-safe parts are easier to keep clean. Straw lids need a brush.
- Material. Stainless steel does not hold flavors as much as plastic.
Beach-specific tips
- Fill with ice first, then drink. More ice means a colder drink for longer.
- Sand and salt are tough on lids and gaskets. Rinse with fresh water after each trip.
- Pick a light color. Dark cups heat up in direct sun.
- Write your name on it or use a charm. Matching cups get mixed up at group beach days.
